EastEnders star Sid Owen has revealed that he is set to become father for the first time at the age of 49 and also has a wedding on the cards.
Sid, best-known for playing Ricky Butcher on the BBC soap from 1988 to 2012, reunited with a former flame Victoria during lockdown, when they reconnected on Facebook 20 years after first meeting.
The couple have since gone from strength to strength, becoming engaged and preparing to welcome their first child together.
Sid admitted that he ‘never ever dreamt’ that he would have children, stating: ‘The older you get the more distant the idea seems, you give up hope sometimes, so it is a miracle it has happened.’
Speaking to The Sunday Mirror, he said: ‘We’d spoken about it when we talked about marriage but I just didn’t think it was going to happen. I was completely shocked and over the moon.’
Sid and Victoria, 42, first started dating in 1998 after meeting at a party thrown by Rolling Stone band member Ronnie Wood.
Their relationship came to an end after about a year, with Victoria going on to marry and have two children.
When Victoria first met Sid, she recalled having a vague idea who he was, but she didn’t watch EastEnders at the time.
‘I think I knew who he was but it wasn’t a big thing to me, I didn’t watch EastEnders or much TV,’ she said.
The couple do know the sex of the baby, but they’re keeping it under wraps for now.
