Fire breaks out in block of flats close to Grenfell Tower as eight fire engines rush to scene

A ‘number’ of patients are being treated after a blaze broke out inside a flat close to Grenfell Tower.

Sixty firefighters are battling the fire on the 12th floor of a high-rise block in Shepherd’s Bush, west London.

Eight fire engines raced to the scene on Queensdale Crescent at around 9.20am.

The cause is unknown at this stage and the incident is ongoing.

Pictures show smoke billowing from the building, with Grenfell, about a 15-minute walk away, in view.

It comes a week after the fifth anniversary of the tragedy that took 72 lives.

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: ‘We have dispatched multiple resources to the scene and are treating a number of patients.’

London Fire Brigade said staff received more than 30 999 calls when the fire broke out today.
