Greater Manchester Police officer admits sexual assault of 6-year-old girl

A police officer has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl while on duty. Constable Dean Dempster of Greater Manchester Police (GMP) “sexually touched” the child in Oldham on 29 December 2023.

Dempster, residing on Langford Road in Manchester, confessed to one count of sexual assault at Liverpool Crown Court. A second count of misconduct in public office was ordered to lie on the file.

Formally suspended from duty, Dempster is scheduled to appear in court on 26 April, when a date for sentencing will be determined. Judge Stuart Driver, KC, remanded Dempster in custody ahead of the next hearing.

Having joined GMP in 2021 after serving as a special constable and an ambulance service paramedic, Dempster’s misconduct proceedings are expected to resume after the sentencing.
