A police horse knocked a woman unconscious as mounted officers and others armed with water canons raided a lockdown-breaching ‘festival’ which turned out to be an April Fools joke.
Clashes between revellers and police erupted at Bois de la Cambre park in Brussels, Belgium, after huge crowds arrived for Thursday’s event, which was actually a Facebook prank.
Up to 5,000 people descended on the park despite Belgium’s Covid rules banning gatherings of more than four people.
The original post had promised “eight stages, a hundred DJs and zero coronavirus rules”, with acts including a one-off reunion of recently split dance group Daft Punk.
But social media users seemingly failed to appreciate the joke, given it was April 1, and turned up in their hordes.
As a result, mounted police waded in to try and clear the party-goers but ended up trampling people, before blasting water cannons.
