Oxford Street has been cordoned off by police after a man was stabbed in front of horrified shoppers.
Emergency services were called to the busy shopping strip at just before 8pm on Thursday evening (July 1) to reports of a man stabbed close to Oxford Circus Tube station.
The victim, whose age is not yet known, was found injured and rushed to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
Images and videos posted on social media show a large cordon in place on Oxford Street.
A 25-year-old man was arrested after he was detained by members of the public at the scene, the Metropolitan Police said.
“He has been taken to a South London hospital for treatment to a head injury, which is not believed to be life-threatening,” a spokesperson for the force added.
