12-year-old boy in hospital after ‘huge’ explosion at industrial estate

A 12-YEAR-OLD boy has been urgently taken to hospital following a “massive” explosion at an industrial estate. Firefighters raced to tackle a fire in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, yesterday as dense black smoke billowed into the sky.

Four Scottish Fire and Rescue Service vehicles were dispatched to the scene at Tannochside Industrial Estate at around 9.10pm. Emergency services were alerted to reports of an “explosion” as local residents observed thick smoke emanating from the fire.

A 12-year-old boy was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. His current condition is not known.

Online reports are suggesting that the young boy sustained burns as a result of the fire. However, this information has not been officially confirmed. Police cordoned off the surrounding area as they assisted the firefighters in their efforts to extinguish the raging fire.

SFRS teams have confirmed that a dumpster and a heavy goods vehicle caught fire. They departed from the scene less than three hours later, ensuring that the area was once again safe.
